Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises, suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Each posture stretches, strengthens and prepares specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture. The Bikram method also stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100 percent of the body, restoring all systems to a healthy working order.
Bikram scientifically designed this 90-minute program to deliver total health through the balancing and strengthening of every system in the body in order to prevent illness, injury, promote weight loss and limit the effects of aging. Bikram Yoga is done in a heated room to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow a deeper workout and cleanse the body by flushing toxins.
Testimonials
Since starting yoga about a year ago, I have seen tremendous improvements in a number of areas. Most significant is in the area of flexibility. Prior to starting yoga I was unable to touch my toes. Now I reach my toes with ease.
This improvement in flexibility has also translated into more efficient running. As an avid runner, yoga has improved not only my stride but also my breathing pattern. Running to me seems easier, less strenuous. Not to mention the pain in both my knees and back have subsided.
Yoga has also helped me mentally. By the end of class I feel calm, loose and energized. Initially yoga was a way to give my body a break from the constant pounding it took from the years of sports. Little did I know that I would fall in love with it, I look forward to class every day.
Running and volleyball are two of the reasons why I am practicing – and teaching – Bikram Yoga. While so incredibly satisfying to me, these high impact sports hurt my body to the point that I was not enjoying them anymore. With running, my knees, lower back, tense shoulders and neck, were under the constant weekly care of chiropractic, acupuncture and masseuse treatments, not to mention Advil! With volleyball, the focus was on my right-hitting shoulder and knees. I started Bikram out of desperation. I was literally bent in two in the morning and not a “happy camper”. Four years later, I have ABSOLUTELY NO BACK, SHOULDER, NECK OR KNEE PAIN! Bikram Yoga recreated mobility in my spine and joints, enabling me to build strong and flexible muscles all over my body. My chiropractor calls me every few months to make sure I am still alive. Advil is no longer part of my diet, and guess what? Beside being what my family and friends refer to as the “energizer bunny”, I still run (usually races in which I place in my age group) and, every weekend, I go straight from yoga to play 2-on-2 beach volleyball!
